What predicts success with bracing?

Research presented at SOSORT 2026 identified two of the most important factors associated with successful brace treatment:

  • The amount of correction achieved while wearing the brace (in-brace correction)

  • Consistency of brace wear

Adolescents whose braces achieved greater correction and were worn as prescribed were more likely to reduce the risk of curve progression during growth.

What might this mean?

Successful bracing is not simply about having a brace. The fit of the brace, the amount of correction achieved, and adherence to the prescribed wear schedule all play important roles in treatment outcomes.

This research highlights the importance of working closely with your scoliosis team, including your physician, orthotist, and physiotherapist, to optimize brace treatment
